Volunteer

There are several ways you can volunteer.

1. Volunteer to Serve on a Committee.

Committees are vital to the proper functioning of the Association. Each year there are vacancies on the various committees that must be filled. The Committee on Committees looks for interested and committed members for possible appointment.

Committee Membership must represent the Southern, Central, and Northern sections of the PSA western region. Usually there is one opening for each region on each appointed committee. Those responsible for committee appointments are always glad to know of willing volunteers. Student members are now eligible to serve on all appointed committees with the exception of the Awards Committee.

The PSA has 13 committees that members can volunteer to serve on: Awards; Community Colleges; Rights, Liberties, and Social Justice; Freedom of Research and Teaching; Practice, Applied and Clinical Sociology; Status of Racial and Ethnic Minorities; Status of LGBTQ+ Persons in Sociology; Status of Women; Teaching; Emeritus and Retired Sociologists; Membership; Student Affairs; and Endowment.  Serving on a PSA Committee is an effective way to network with professional colleagues. If you are interested, please send an email to the Executive Office at executivedirector@pacificsoc.org providing your name, university affiliation if applicable, status (undergraduate or graduate student, faculty, applied sociologist, etc.), contact information, and which committee(s) you are interested in serving on.

To serve on a committee, you must be a member of the PSA in good standing, you must keep this membership current during your term of appointment, and you must commit to attending committee meetings at the conferences during your term.

Appointments are usually for a three-year term and are made in the fall each year, to begin service the following spring.

2. Volunteer at the conference.

Students can volunteer for a 3.25 hour shift assisting with checking attendees in at the registration area and related tasks. The call for these volunteers goes out in January each year, and fills up fast! For more information, see For Students.
